Fatphobia: the excessive fear and dislike of fat in oneself and in others
Change it up!
Try something really revolutionary . . . loving ALL of who we are.
The Body Positive website encourages us to create “a community where we are free of judgment and comparison. We make the choice daily to love and honor our unique bodies and selves as we fight against the messages that tell us we need to strive at all times to be someone other than we are.” So let’s do it ya’ll!
Think on it!
What would it look like to feel good in our own bodies, whatever shape or form they come in? What could our society look like if we resisted what the television, radio and commercials told us how to look and what a“normal” size is. How might we take the power back?
Assessing Your Attitudes About Weight and Size Acceptance is a tool that lets individuals, friends, co-workers, family members, educators, counselors and others examine how their own feelings, beliefs and behavior may be impacting the people in their lives and communities. This tool is something everybody for personal reflection or for group discussion.
Being “healthy” or “well” doesn’t mean being a size 6 or having a sized 33 waist for all of us. Sometimes it means drinking water, getting in exercise to the best of our abilities, eating fruits and veggies, laughing, having good friends or being confident and happy in who we already are.
