Home Grown: Southern Style
Project South
Project South is a grassroots organization based in the US South. For over 23 years, we have created critical spaces for movement building. We work with communities pushed forward by the struggle to strengthen leadership for long-term transformation. Our programs focus on communities of color affected by social control and economic degradation created by historic and current trends of privatization, exploitation, and structural racism in the US. We provide popular political education through our dynamic leadership development models, and we build relationships with organizations and networks across the US and global South. We believe in bottom-up movement building for social, racial, and economic justice on local, regional, national, and global levels.
Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, Project South provides interactive, popular education trainings. They also have curriculum around leadership skills development, ending racism, youth development, social control, social movements and human rights.

Southerners on New Ground
Southerners on New Ground (SONG) is a regional organization based in the South that believes all our identities, issues and lives are connected across race, class, culture, gender and sexuality. SONG is a membership-based, Southern regional organization made up of working class, people of color, immigrants, and rural LGBTQ people. We vision a world where the 3rd shift factory worker and the drag queen at the bar down the block see their lives as connected and are working together for liberation.
The SONG website hosts thoughts and strategies on organizing in the South, tools and great links. Below is one of the FREE downloadable tools they offer.

SOUL
SOUL is a school to build a movement.
SOUL is working to lay the groundwork for a strong social justice movement by supporting the development of a new generation of organizers rooted in a systemic change analysis -especially people of color, young women, queer and transgender youth and low-income people. We believe that – in order for organizers to build an effective movement for fundamental social change – they need support to develop the nuts-and-bolts organizing skills they need to mobilize their communities and to deepen their political analysis and their visions for fundamental social change. SOUL helps to build the capacity of organizers and leaders of grassroots organizations to win systemic change.
Based in Oakland, California, Soul offers everything from trainings, trainings for trainers, sliding scale organizing manuals.
